ARGENTINA: UCR sunk between K, L and R options

The divisions within the opposition Unión Cí­vica Radical (UCR) eventually caused its rupture on 14 November. The president of the party, Roberto Iglesias, resigned because of irreconcilable differences between three internal factions: those pushing for an alliance with President Néstor Kirchner (the "K" Radicals); those pursuing a coalition with former economy minister Roberto Lavagna (the "L" Radicals); and those wanting to rally behind their own candidate in the 2007 presidential elections, (the "R" Radicals). The UCR might soon abandon all pretence of being a single party.
